    New Way® Air Bearings Introduces High-speed (H-Series) Air Bars

    The H-Series uses larger vacuum forces which provide customers with the superior flattening ability crucial for high processing speeds. These high-speed air bars require air gaps less than 50 microns, which increases stiffness for better control. And, like with all products in our air bar line, the soft carbon substrate used to make these air bars will not scratch the glass surfaces it transports.

    New Way’s Porous Media Technology™ uses a porous carbon material naturally permeated with millions of sub-micron holes. Air is forced through these channels to provide a uniform distribution of air at the surface of the air bars. This creates stiffer air cushions that permit lower fly heights while requiring lower input pressure. The even distribution of airflow also removes pressure gradients and makes production-halting crashes a thing of the past.

    Click to view full testing and analysis report (shown on right) The unique use of porous media in our high-speed air bars makes them ideal for cleanroom use. Not only is less air used in air bars when compared to orifice-based air bearings, but the air is evenly distributed by the porous media. Both of these features minimize the potential of currents or eddies in the cleanroom and their damaging impacts on the production of products like semiconductor wafers or flat panel displays.

    Another benefit of the use of porous media is its ability to perform as a sub-micron filter for the air emitted. Testing indicates the bearing satisfies the requirements of Class 1 (ISO 3) cleanliness, with airborne particulate concentrate limits of less than 1,000 x 0.1μm particles / m3.
